At Doncaster Dolphins, we encourage swimmers of all levels to get involved in competition. Events include the annual Masters Swimming Australia (MSA) National Championships hosted in a different state each year over 4 to 6 days; several Masters Swimming Victoria (MSV) State Championships held throughout the year and run in various formats, including Long Course (LC) events in a 50m pool and Short Course (SC) events in a 25m pool; regular Interclub Meets hosted by local clubs, these are great for all experience levels and can include a fun social gathering; and the Pan Pacific Masters Games held every two years on the Gold Coast. Meets include Relays which our Team Manager organises. For further details on competitions, check out this overview. Members are encouraged to join the Dolphins WhatsApp Pool Competition Group to stay up to date. Click here for a calendar of the latest swimming events.
TEAM MANAGER REPORT
The Masters Swimming Australia Nationals 2025 in Melbourne was very successful for Doncaster Dolphins! We had 35 swimmers competing and club captain Katie Clarkson brought the team spirit with our mascot Donny the dolphin. While we weren’t the largest club there, we most certainly were the loudest, with some fantastic new chants led by Katie and Lynda!
I was proud to be involved as the newly appointed Team Manager and worked towards achieving the committee-decided relay goals: 1. Attempting National records, 2. Targeting 240-279 age group trophy and 3. Inclusive participation. While we didn’t quite achieve the age group trophy (Marlins had a much larger team), everyone that wanted to swim in a relay was given the opportunity to participate, and more importantly we smashed the National record goal out of the water!
The total number of relay Australian records broken at Nationals was 12, and Doncaster broke 5 of these! In addition to this, our relays also broke 4 Victorian records and 2 club records. Congratulations to everyone who helped in achieving these accolades!!!
SWIMMER OF THE MEET
Congratulations to Dorothy Dickey on winning the Female Swimmer of the Meet, an amazing achievement! She has continued to make her mark on the World Aquatics record books, breaking World records in 800m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle, and the 400m Freestyle Australian record in the split of her 800!
A RECORD-BREAKING TEAM
In addition to Dorothy’s records and our record-breaking relay teams, our swimmers also broke 34 individual club records (flagged as CR in the results) – equally 17 by men and 17 by women. Peta Harvey also broke 3 state records (SR in results) - although they were then broken in later heats. Outstanding swimming!!
In the 100 Free, Ofir broke a record that had been standing for 29 years, almost as long as the 200 Back record that Lara broke, which had stood for 31 years, well before she was born!
